Terms of business


Please make sure you read this.  You must confirm you've read it and agree when you place your order.   Everything you read here is pretty simple common sense, and most of it is to ensure fair play for all (including us!).  Your order is a legally binding contract of sale, and is governed by UK law should any problems arise.

ORDERING
When you place your order, only a deposit of £200 is taken for your jacket.  This deposit is NON REFUNDABLE if we're not at fault.  Every jacket commissioned represents a significant investment here and the deposit isn't even close to the cost amount.  It does provide a cushion against forfeit and a safety-net against timewasters though. If you do cancel, the shipping charge you also pay at point of order IS refundable in full (after all it's hardly right if nothing's been shipped!)

In ordering, you agree that when your jacket is made and ready to ship, we may collect the remaining price from your payment card.  If you pay by another method such as PayPal, Nochex, or a direct bank transfer, you agree to pay us within 7 days of our request.  If you fail to do so, unless we specifically agree otherwise, we may cancel the order and you will be refunded ONLY the shipping charges you paid at the point of order and you forfeit the deposit and the jacket.

If we're at fault, for example if we have failed to supply your goods within our stated timeframe, you can of course cancel your order with no penalty whatsoever, and will be refunded in full.

This is all in the interest of fair-play for all.


CHANGING YOUR ORDER
Ohhhh MAKE UP YOU MIND!  Seriously though, if after ordering you decide you want to change something about the jacket you've ordered - for example maybe you've ordered an extra pocket with a button fastener but you'd prefer a zip - let us know as soon as possible by e-mail and we'll do what we can if it's not too late.  But be very clear that once production starts, the order is final and can't be changed.


DELIVERY TIME
The time to create a jacket is 2-3 weeks.  We will ship your jacket as soon as it's ready.  We'll let you know with an e-mail notification, and if you gave us a mobile number on the order form we'll also send you a text message to let you know too.

In the UK we use Special Delivery which delivers the next working day (Guaranteed) and usually Saturdays (not guaranteed).

Elsewhere the usual delivery time varies depending on location and the service you choose.  The expected delivery time is given on the name of the shipping option you choose when you order.




Please avoid the temptation to e-mail after 1 week to ask for a status report or to ask "how it's going".  If you feel you want to, here is the answer in advance;

Dear (You),

Your Jacket is currently in the production stage.  It's all going according to plan.

We'll send you another mail as soon as its ready and we're collecting the remainder of the price, and another when it's shipped.

YOUR DELIVERY
All deliveries will require to be signed for.  If you are not present to receive the delivery, the carrier will leave a card with details of how to collect it in person, or to arrange a redelivery (specifics vary by local delivering agents).

By ordering, you agree that you will make all reasonable efforts to take posession of the goods in good time.

In the event that goods are returned to us because you have not made such arrangements, you will be liable for all costs incurred and the cost of re-delivery.


REGISTRATION
Every jacket made is allocated a unique production number.  We record this number along with a surname and country.  Although this is far from "identifiable personal information" we nonetheless make it a term of sale that we may make and keep such a record and publish the complete list on a website.  NO OTHER REFERENCE WILL EVER BE MADE TO ANY BUYER.  Also, you may specify a different surname for the record if you wish at the checkout.



ORDER ACCEPTANCE
If we decline to accept your order for any reason, any money paid will be refunded in full, EXCEPT where we are declining due to security concerns and you have refused to assist us in resolving a discrepancy - in that case all money will be returned LESS the cost of processing the financial transactions - both in receiving and refunding - which we incur.  We reserve the right to decline an order with any individual at any time.

All kinds of trickery is possible with websites, and if we find any order has been attempted or submitted with inappropriately adjusted details or prices, or fraudulent information, we'll reject it with no further obligation to communicate with the offending party.



RETURNS
Due to the specific made-to-order nature of The Doctor's Jacket, every one is a one-off and so returns are a problem.  We allow a good degree of specific size specification for your jacket to avoid such problems and to make sure your jacket is as excellent a fit FOR YOU as possible.  Every jacket is carefully inspected and checked in detail by the makers plus two people here prior to shipping, and an inspection certificate signed off, so we guarantee them to be fault free.  Strong and safe packaging is used for every one. (NOTE: In the UK, this item is not subject to the Distance Selling "right to cancel" rules as it is a custom item made to specific order.)

The only reason for a return then, is if you're just Not Happy for some reason.  Honestly, it's SO good that's almost inconceivable, but just to cater for even that eventuality, we're prepared to offer the following solution;

You may return your jacket, within 7 days of receiving it, in original mint condition, and subject to our condition inspection we will buy it back for £300 - this amount will be paid to you as a partial refund of your original purchase as per the statement below.  All shipping costs are your responsibility.


And Finally...
The above terms are the default terms, for the record. We might well agree to work outside some of these terms for an individual at our discretion upon request and pleasure to make life easier for folks with genuine problems. Timewasters are not accomodated, genuine people are welcomed and helped with open arms, and can expect to be thoroughly delighted.
