Doctor Who's Leather Jacket

Some choices

We can make a straightforward screen-accurate jacket for you, but we've added a couple of variations to cater for your specific wants for your Jacket.  (You'll get to choose all these things on the ordering pages)

Pockets
The original jackets have one inside pocket, on your left side when you're wearing it.  The fastening is a leather tab and button type.  This is the default inside pocket for the jacket.

Pictured Right is the original style button fastened pocket >>

If you like, we'll add a second inside pocket on the right side too.

If you'd like one or both of these pockets to have a zip fastening for extra security, we can do that too.

We've made sure it's a subtle zip so the look of the jacket isn't spoiled by any glaring anachronisms.  ;-)  The zip is silver metal, and of a suitably high quality to suit this class of jacket.

black jacket and brown jacket together for comparison

The Doctor's Jacket is black.  Click HERE  for a page all about that if you're in any doubt.  So the actual replica jacket is of course, the black one.

But enough people specifically requested a brown version that we went ahead and sorted out a brown version too.  Again this is in keeping with the origins of the Kreigsmarine jacket which The Doctor wore, as these were actually made in both black and brown.  Indeed the genuine original 1940 vintage one we bought is the brown version as you can see on the HISTORY page.

Lining
The original jackets were used by German submarine officers, and were lined appropriately for use in the conditions these men would encounter.  Again, there were variants in the design which included a warm blanket-type material.  But the version used in the televised tales of our time-travelling TARDIS tourist was of a type that used a linen material for the lining.  The sleeves are lined differently, with a more traditional lining material to allow the wearer to get his arms in and out easily without dragging.

We've replicated these materials with great care of course.

The lining which we use is true to the original material.  You can get a good idea of the texture from the inside pocket shots above.  We'd initially worried it might be a bit heavy and hot to wear, but in practice it's turned out to be surprisingly lightweight and it's both accurate and comfortable.  Even so, I asked early subscribers to the project for opinions and although only a small number asked for a lightweight, traditional jacket lining material for fear of an authentic lining being too hot, we decided to once again give you the choice.  It needed to not be too shiny for this jacket, which many lining satins unfortunately are.  It couldn't be flimsy, and of course the colour was just as important.  After a LOT of searching and trial and error, we finally found an excellent antique gold satin lining material.

My own advice is unquestionably for accuracy - which is the whole point of a replica.  And I'd happily recommend the genuine material every time too - it's very light and not too warm at all.  But in case it should worry you, you can safely choose the satin lining in the knowledge that I've made sure you won't be disappointed either way.

Sizes
Obviously you want your custom jacket to FIT.  So, on top of the standard general sizes, S/M/L, and so forth, we'll ask you to provide a couple of extra measurements to make sure your sleeves aren't down to your knees.  You can see exactly how we want them taken on the specific measuring page HERE.
